An Act of God, which is a stage adaptation based on the book of the same name by David Javerbaum, is an outrageous comedy that reveals the mysteries of the Bible and the strange ways in which God works. The book, which was first published in 2011, was described in The New York Times as “fearless…. A recklessly funny series of gags about all things religious and quite a few things secular too,” and the Washington Post said An Act of God was “like The Bible, if The Bible were narrated by Mel Brooks on crack-laced manna.”

An Act of God, starring Sean Hayes as God, is a new comedy focusing on answering some of life’s bigger questions about the Creator in just 90 minutes of stage time. This is God on Broadway, setting the record straight in his most honest and straightforward manner. Javerbaum, who is adapting his book to the stage, was a Tony nominee in 2008 with co-writer Adam Schlesinger for their score to the musical Cry-Baby. The author, who has won 11 Emmy Awards for his work as head writer and executive producer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, won two additional Emmys with Schlesinger for songs performed by Neil Patrick Harris on the Tony broadcast.SYNOPSIS
