The Gin Game

The Pulitzer Prize winning play The Gin Game comes to Broadway with two of the most magnificent performers of our lifetime. Tony winner James Earl Jones and Tony winner Cicely Tyson will play Weller Martin and Fonsia Dorsey respectively. In this insightful, passionate and truthful play, we see two people engaged in the game of gin as the secrets they have accumulated throughout their lives are exposed.

  • SYNOPSIS

    In The Gin Game, Weller Martin (Jones) and Fonsia Dorsey (Tyson) meet on the porch of their nursing home, become acquainted, and develop a friendship as Weller teaches Fonsia how to play gin rummy. As they play, they share stories about their former lives before they entered the nursing home. But Weller, who is a better teacher of gin rummy than player, starts to lose every hand to his pupil, Fonsia, and as this occurs he becomes more and more frustrated. Suddenly their gin games and conversations become a battleground, with each player bent on exposing the other’s failures, regrets, and insecurities.
