The new musical The Bridges of Madison County, which is based on James Waller’s novel of the same name, offers the bittersweet story of Robert Kincaid, a photographer, and his brief but life-altering affair with Francesca Johnson, an Iowa farm wife. The Bridges of Madison County is written by Tony winner Jason Robert Brown and Pulitzer Prize and Tony winner Marsha Norman.

  • SYNOPSIS

    In the musical The Bridges of Madison County, when photographer Robert Kincaid traveled to the desolate Iowa community to take pictures of the local bridges, he was not expecting that his life would be changed. But Kincaid’s brief, four-day affair with Iowa farm wife Francesca Johnson affects his in a major way and alters both of their lives forever. Based on Robert James Waller’s 1992 bestselling novel, The Bridges of Madison County offers a score by Brown and a book by Norman. Bartlett Sher directs the Broadway production, which premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2013 with Kelli O’Hara and Steven Pasquale in the lead roles.
