Caissie Levy has an amazing voice. She has a stunning look. And she can carry a scene with aplomb. There’s a wonderful natural vibrancy in her and, at the same time, her acting technique is finely tuned. She’s been on Broadway and on national tours but her biggest role, up to this point, is in the present tense. It’s that of Molly Jensen, which she created for the world premiere of Ghost The Musical in London.
Now she is about to do the same with that role in the U.S. on Broadway as the phenomenal West End hit, Ghost The Musical, has crossed the Atlantic and is previews on the Great White Way.
Growing Up and Training
Caissie Shira Levy grew up in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada. The 30-year-old actress has two older brothers, Josh and Robi. Her dad, Mark, is a GP and her mom, Lisa Levy, oversees the business aspects of her husband’s medical practice. When she was in her teens, Caissie started to perform in community musicals. In 1999, she graduated from Westdale Secondary School.
Although her first inclination was to study classical theatre and focus on Shakespeare, it was suggested that she audition for the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York. She did and earned entrance into the school. With that, Caissie was on her way to a career on the musical theatre stage. In 2006, she graduated from AMDA and just a week later she was playing Maureen in the national tour of RENT.
Credits
After serving as understudy for Hair Spray’s Penny Pingleton in the Toronto production, Caissie landed the replacement position for that role on Broadway. She also played the part in the national tour.
In 2008, she played Elphaba in the production of Wicked in Los Angeles, which was a role she had understudied on Broadway and had been the stand-by for in Los Angeles. She initially performed the role on January 1, 2008, replacing Eden Espinosa. In May of that same year, she left the production.
In 2009, Caissie starred as Sheila in the Broadway revival of Hair at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
She continued with that show, leaving the Broadway production to play the same role in the West End revival, performing at the Gielgud Theatre starting April 1, 2010. The show closed September 4, 2010. It was not too long after the closing of Hair that she started creating the part of Molly Jensen in Ghost The Musical.
Ghost The Musical
The biggest break that any actor can get is to create the role in a hit show. When Caissie landed the part of Molly in Ghost The Musical it became her chance to be a major part of the process of taking a show from page to stage.

By the way while being a part of the West End production of Ghost The Musical, which is a story about eternal love, Caissie Levy married her own eternal love—actor David Reiser on 30th October 2011. The ceremony was held on a beach in Miami in the evening. The couple had been dating for five years.
