  • SYNOPSIS

It is 1959, the year of Billie Holiday’s death, as she is suffering from cirrhosis of the liver and heart disease, Lady Day puts on an unforgettable show at Emerson's Bar & Grill in Philadelphia. The show, one of her last, reveals every detail of the fragile, tough, and charismatic Holiday. Holiday grew up as no child should. She was raped when she was 11 years old, and in 1929, at the age of 14, she became a prostitute in Harlem. However, Holiday’s talent as a singer eventually won her fame, and by 1939, she was a mainstream talent. In 1948, she played to a sold out Carnegie Hall. Despite her amazing success, throughout her lifetime, Lady Day struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and was the victim of numerous abusive relationships.
