Set in the lobby of a small midtown NYC hotel, Hughie tells the story of a man, Erie Smith, living a desultory life. He visits with the new night clerk at a hotel located in the West Side of Manhattan, bringing to life stories about Hughie, the former night clerk who has passed away. As Erie mourns the death of Hughie, the drunken, small time hustler entertains the new clerk tall-tales of those magnificent times spent with Hughie.
