A Delicate Balance, which premiered on Broadway in 1966 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1967, offers insights into the unsettling existence of an upper-middle-class couple and members of their family who struggle to cope with life and its uncertainties.

In Albee’s A Delicate Balance, Tobias and Agnes, a long-married, suburban couple, must attempt to deal with a weekend filled with angst, uncertainty, and surprises. Their 36-year-old daughter, Julia, returns home after the disintegration of her fourth marriage; their longtime friends, Harry and Edna, show up at their doorstep with an undefined form of darkening anxiety; and Agnes’ sister, Claire, an alcoholic who has been living with the couple as a permanent houseguest, injects the proceedings with her loose, witty tongue.SYNOPSIS
