Bruce Willis, who is best known for his work in the Die Hard action-movie series, will star in William Goldman’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel Misery. Misery, which was originally adapted by Goldman as a film, starring Kathy Bates and James Cahn, is the story novelist Paul Sheldon and his biggest fan, Annie Wilkes.
The action, which is set in a lonely, snow-encased New England town, involves Sheldon getting trapped in his car after it skids and crashes. Wilkes rescues him along with his new manuscript, which is tucked away in his nearby briefcase. She gladly nurses him back to health, until she reads his new novel and realizes he has killed off a heroine named Misery who has appeared in a string of romances. She keeps him captive, wanting him to resurrect Misery, and he must try to escape from his captor.

Aging farm laborer Nukain has spent his life transforming the rocks at Revolver Creek into a vibrant garden of painted flowers. Now, the final unpainted rock, as well as his young companion Bokkie, has forced Nukain to confront his legacy as a painter, a person and a black man in 1980s South Africa. When the landowner’s wife arrives with demands about the painting, the profound rifts of a country hurtling toward the end of apartheid are laid bare.
Athol Fugard, Signature’s 2012 Playwright-in-Residence and winner of the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Tony Award, returns with a new play inspired by the life of South African outsider artist Nukain Mabusa.
