The classic American film, An American in Paris, is a major Broadway musical. The new stage musical, which, just like the film, features a score by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, has a book by Craig Lucas (Tony Award nomination for the book of Light in the Piazza). The show is choreographed and directed by Olivier Award winner Christopher Wheeldon, who well known known as a classically trained choreographer. An American in Paris tells the story of Jerry Mulligan, an American painter living in post-World War II France. The film is well known for its choreographic style, which is an amalgam primarily of ballet and jazz.

  • SYNOPSIS

    In An American in Paris, struggling U.S. artist Jerry Mulligan, played by Robert Fairchild, a featured dancer for the NY City Ballet, suddenly finds himself on the cusp of success as a wealthy woman named Milo Davenport wants to be come his sponsor. But Milo is more interested in Jerry’s physique than his art, and the U.S. artist must struggle between a blossoming love that he feels for the young Lise Dassin and the money and affection that Milo offers. An American in Paris includes numerous standards such as "Embraceable You," "Nice Work If You Can Get It," "I Got Rhythm," and "Our Love Is Here to Stay."
