The Last Ship, a new musical with book by Brian Yorkey (Next To Normal and If/Then) and John Logan (screenwriter for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Aviator, and Gladiator) and music by Sting, comes to Broadway. The Last Ship tells the story of Gideon Fletcher, a man who has travelled the world and returned home, only to discover how much he has lost.

Gideon Fletcher, the central character in The Last Ship, dreamed of leaving his small shipbuilding and seafaring town of Wallsend for greater, more interesting places, and he did. Abandoning his girlfriend and his simple life, he finds a new world. When he returns after 14 years, he discovers his childhood sweetheart is engaged to another man and that his hometown is in distress. Wallsend, known for building magnificent ships that dominate the oceans, is about to lose its identity and the people their livelihood, as the shipbuilding enterprise is in danger.SYNOPSIS

- In The Last Ship, the men of the shipbuilding company erect a great monument, a towering and emblematic representation of the great vessels they have created. Gideon realizes that when he left the small town of Wallsend that he lost more than he ever could have imagined. Prior to coming to Broadway, The Last Ship will play Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre beginning June 10, 2014 and closing on July 13, 2014.
