Holler If Ya Hear Me

Featuring rapper Tupac Shakur’s music and lyrics, Holler If Ya Hear Me offers a powerful story focusing on the lives of two childhood friends. Acclaimed director and Tony nominee Kenny Leon (2010 Fences) will bring this new musical to life, along with choreographer Wayne Cilento. Leon, who says the project is the “greatest artistic challenge” of his life, has called Tupac Shakur’s music a “mountain of beauty.” Holler If Ya Hear Me looks to be one of the most innovative musicals that Broadway has seen in a long time.

  • SYNOPSIS

    Set in the inner-city streets of the industrial Midwest, Holler If Ya Hear Me is a present-day musical that focuses on two friends who have known one another since childhood. The story chronicles the struggles of the two central characters and their families as they attempt to deal with and reconcile the contrasting harsh and difficult realties of their lives with their dreams, hope, and plans for the future.

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me, which features a book by actor, playwright and dramaturge Todd Kreidler, will offer audiences a rich catalogue of music and lyrics by Shakur, including “California Love,” “Keep Ya Head Up,” “Me Against the World” and “Holler If Ya Hear Me.” Shakur, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996, is not the focus of the story. Director Leon notes, “It’s a family story, a love story. If you can, imagine four or five men onstage singing ‘Dear Mama,’ and what that will sound like. Hopefully, it will change the world.”
