The mission of the Museum of Arts & Design is to explore the relationship between contemporary art, design, and craft. Objects in its collection are created with a variety of materials including wood, enamel, synthetics, glass, fiber, metal, clay, stones and gems, and mixed media. Touring the galleries, visitors are treated to stunning pieces of art: weaving, jewelry, ceramics, furniture, wearable art, quilts, vessels, goblets, beadwork, and the like.
In 2008, MAD moved to its new location at Columbus Circle thereby tripling its exhibition space. An Open Studios program affords visitors a view of artists at work. Cinemas, talks, special performances and programs are held in the new 144-seat theater. Summer programs and workshops for school groups are available. MAD offers free museum tours and accommodations for group visits.
