Newsies

Newsies on Broadway group sales tickets

The live-action Disney film Newsies has been adapted for the stage and is filling the Nederlander Theatre stage with its cast of newsboys. The 1992 movie musical focuses on the Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. Newsies is a great family show with lots of entertaining songs, an uplifting story and important themes.

Synopsis

Newsies, with music by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman and a new book by Tony Award-winning Harvey Fierstein, focuses on the injustices that workers, especially children, faced at the turn of the century in the U.S.
The young paperboys, better known as “newsies” back then, are moved to fight for their rights and take on the massive newspaper establishment in New York City. Seemingly powerless, they find strength in their solidarity and triumph.
Newsies, which is directed by Jeff Calhoun, features numerous crowd pleasing tunes including “Sante Fe,” “Seize the Day” and “King of New York.”
