The Divine Miss M will be playing another high powered woman whose last name stared with ‘M.” Bette Midler will play mega agent Sue Mengers in the one-woman play “I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers.” Tony-winner Midler, who is back n Broadway after 30 years, will play the woman who was agent to some of the biggest stars of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Mengers was also known as a social icon, throwing the most lavish parties in Hollywood to which an invitation was highly coveted. Cicely Tyson Trip to Bountiful
The revival of The Trip to Bountiful looks to be an exciting addition to the Broadway season. Tony-winner Cicely Tyson will be on stage, playing Carrie Watts, an aging woman who longs to connect with her hometown of Bountiful, Texas. The cast is rounded out by other big names, including Cuba Gooding, Jr. as her perplexed son Ludie Watts, Vanessa Williams as her controlling daughter-in-law Jessie Mae Watts, and Condola Rashad as Thelma, the young woman who befriends Carrie. The Trip to Bountiful starts previews on March 30.
Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike
Sigourney Weaver will be in Christopher Durang’s in “Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike” starting March 5. The comedy premiered late last season at Lincoln Center. Emmy and Tony winner David Hyde Pierce will join Weaver, a three-time Oscar nominee. Both starred in the sold-out New York premiere of “Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike” at Lincoln Center. The show opens on officially March 14 and is scheduled for a 17-week run.
